Queer history and queer culture are not as represented on Wikipedia as they should be. Many of the filmmakers and films that we screen this year at XPOSED or have screened in the past do not have Wikipedia articles in any language, despite having won awards and being of relevance for queer and feminist film history. We want to change this – and would love for you to be a part of it!

In this panel we aim to discuss how expanded and experimental forms of storytelling open up new artistic possibilities — exploring how artists working across new media challenge and reimagine the boundaries of narrative, representation and time.

What can be the role of a producer in independent queer film production?
A film producer in independent queer productions acts as the primary driver to bring authentic, often underrepresented stories to screen, balancing artistic vision with limited financial resources. They are responsible for the entire life cycle of the film—from development and financing to production, post-production, and distribution. In the context of independent queer cinema, producers often play a specialized, hands-on role.

How do we move from “representation” on screen to genuine care behind the camera? Making a film is a collective act of vulnerability, but the pressure of a set can often overlook the well-being of the humans involved. Join Nastaran for a vital session on transforming film sets into safer, more aware, and sustainable spaces. This workshop isn’t about “checking boxes”; it’s about building a culture where queer and marginalized voices can do their best work without compromising their mental health.

Staying true to the festival’s dedication and support for queer film production, the Queer Short Film Fund will be awarded for the 12th time. The fund was set up to facilitate the development and production of queer short film projects in Germany. Submissions are accepted for documentary, narrative, animated or experimental projects that are queer in content and/or form, with a maximum length of 10 minutes. In addition, projects should broaden their vision to topics beyond traditional LGBTQIA+ representation of the mainstream-niche market.

Twenty years of popcorn, protests, and pushing boundaries. As XPOSED hits its second decade, we’re bringing together a global panel of visionaries to ask the hard questions: Are queer film festivals still the front lines of activism, or have we become part of the very institutions we once challenged? Here we invite curators of Queer Wave Cyprus, Queer Film Festival Hamburg, Women Make Waves Taiwan and the founder of XPOSED for a conversation.

What does an intimacy coordinator do? Has intimacy coordination led to any changes within the broader film industry since its introduction in 2018, and if so, what kind of changes?
In this workshop, you will gain insight into the work of an intimacy coordinator and get a taste of the tools used in working with consent and trying to create safer spaces on set.
